First invented idea
1920s, when
amplification made television practical, Scottish inventor John Logie Baird
employed the Nipkow disk in his prototype video systems. On March 25, 1925,
Baird gave the first public demonstration of televised silhouette images in
motion, at Selfridge's Department Store in London
The addition of color to broadcast television after 1953
further increased the popularity of television sets and an outdoor antenna
became a common feature of suburban homes. The ubiquitous television set became
the display device for the recorded media in the 1970s, such as VHS and later
DVDs and Blu-ray Discs.
